Zygomatic bones (cheekbones)
The zygomatic bones are the cheekbones: a pair of bones that form the prominence of each cheek and the outer rim of each eye socket, connected to the side of the skull by the zygomatic arch.

The zygomatic bones — the zygomas, or cheekbones — sit at the upper outer corners of the face. Each one forms the high point of the cheek, the outer rim and part of the floor of the eye socket, and a bridge back toward the ear called the zygomatic arch. In looksmaxxing they are discussed constantly, usually as "high cheekbones" or "cheekbone width".
What the vocabulary refers to
- Bizygomatic width — the distance between the outermost points of the two arches, the widest measurement of the face and the width term in fWHR.
- High cheekbones — a cheekbone whose most projected point sits relatively high, close to the eye.
- Projection — how far forward the cheekbone sits, which affects how much support the under-eye area has.
What decides how much they show
Bone sets the frame. Soft tissue decides what is visible. The same cheekbones look sharply defined on a lean face and almost absent on a fuller one, because fat over and below the cheek fills in the hollow that makes the bone read. Light does the rest: light from above and to the side casts a shadow under the cheekbone, while flat light from the front erases it. Age shifts volume in the midface too. When a forum attributes a face's look to "good zygos", it is usually describing all of these at once.
Can cheekbones change?
The bone itself, not without surgery. Fillers, cheek implants and buccal fat surgery all exist, and all are medical decisions with risks, costs and trade-offs — reducing buccal fat, for instance, is not reversible, and faces naturally lose midface volume with age. Those are questions for a board-certified surgeon or dermatologist, asked about your face in particular. No exercise, facial massage or posture reshapes a cheekbone.
What is changeable
How much of your cheekbone structure is visible is very much changeable, and the biggest input is body composition. Losing fat is the single most reliable way to bring out the bone you already have — body recomp basics is the practical starting point, and the same logic runs through the jawmaxxing guide. Skin matters more than people expect: smooth, hydrated skin catches the light along the top of the cheek, which is exactly the highlight that makes cheekbones read. That is the idea behind glass skin, and it is a finish, not a structure.
