Hunter eyes
“Hunter eyes” is forum slang for deep-set, horizontally long eyes with little visible upper eyelid, a positive canthal tilt and a low, straight brow. The contrasting term, “prey eyes”, describes rounder eyes with more upper lid and white showing.

Hunter eyes is a looksmaxxing term for a particular eye area: eyes that sit deep under a low, straight brow, look long rather than round, show little or no upper eyelid, and have a positive canthal tilt. The term exists to describe the intense, narrowed look associated with certain actors and models.
The features, one by one
- Deep-set eyes under a prominent brow ridge.
- Low upper-eyelid exposure — the fold sits close to the lash line, or the lid is hidden entirely.
- Horizontal length — the eye reads as almond-shaped rather than round.
- Positive canthal tilt — the outer corner higher than the inner.
- A low, straight brow close to the eye.
"Prey eyes" is the contrasting label: rounder eyes, more visible upper lid, more white showing, often a neutral or negative tilt. It is a description of a common, ordinary eye shape. The forums frame it as a flaw; it is not one.
What it actually describes
The look is a mix of three things, and only one of them is fixed. There is bone — the brow ridge and the depth of the eye socket. There is soft tissue — the eyelid fold, the fat around the eye, puffiness. And there is expression: a relaxed, slightly lowered brow and a little tension in the lower lid narrow any eye, while surprise or tiredness opens it. Many of the photos passed around as examples are actors under overhead lighting with a lowered brow, which is lighting and expression as much as anatomy.
Can you get hunter eyes?
The structural part, no — the brow ridge and orbit are set in adults, and neither exercise nor posture moves them. Anything that claims otherwise is selling something. What the scan measures is the angle and the spacing: the free face scan reads canthal tilt and eye spacing as frame metrics, with no "hunter eye" score and no products attached to either. The longer piece is canthal tilt and hunter eyes.
What is changeable
The soft-tissue and expression parts respond. Puffiness and dark circles round the eye off and make it look tired; sleep and a consistent eye-area routine help with both (dark circles and eye bags, and sleepmaxxing). Lower body fat changes the area around the eyes as well as the jaw. Brows that are tidied rather than thinned keep the frame low and straight. None of this turns one eye shape into another. It makes the eyes you have look rested and alert, which is most of what the term is reaching for.
