Most people start looksmaxxing by buying twelve products in one weekend, using all of them at once, breaking out, and then deciding skincare doesn't work. It works. You just skipped the part where you build a routine that your skin can actually keep up with.

This is the beginner version. Five steps, no fluff, and an honest note about how long each one takes to show up in the mirror.

First, understand what you're actually doing

Your skin is a barrier. Its whole job is to keep water in and irritants out. Almost every visible problem beginners have (redness, flaking, tightness, that weird oily yet dry thing) traces back to a barrier that's been stripped by harsh cleansers, too much exfoliating, or a routine with eleven active ingredients fighting each other.

So the goal of your first ninety days is not "fix everything." It's: clean the skin without wrecking it, put water in, seal the water in, and protect it from the sun. That's it. Everything else is optimization on top of a foundation that has to exist first.

Step 1: Cleanse (morning and night)

You are washing off sweat, sebum, sunscreen and whatever your pillowcase donated overnight. You are not trying to make your face squeak. That squeaky feeling is the sound of your barrier being disassembled.

Twice a day is the sweet spot for most people. If you work out, rinse after. If your skin is genuinely dry and you're not oily, a plain water rinse in the morning and a proper cleanse at night is completely fine.

Our Charcoal Soap is a handcrafted cleansing bar built for this. Activated charcoal binds oil and surface grime without the sulfate load you get in most drugstore face washes.

Step 2: Tone (optional but underrated)

Toner has a bad reputation because for about thirty years it meant "alcohol that burns." Modern toners are the opposite. They're a light hydration and prep layer that gets your skin slightly damp so everything you apply after actually absorbs instead of sitting on top.

Pick based on your skin:

Apply to slightly damp skin. Don't let your face fully dry between steps. That's the single most common mistake in the whole routine.

Step 3: Treat (this is where the results live)

Serums are the concentrated step. This is the one product worth actually spending money on, because it's where the active ingredients are.

Pick one. Not three. One.

  • Dehydrated, tight, dull skin: Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Ours uses four molecular weights of HA so it hydrates at different depths instead of just sitting on the surface. Apply to damp skin, always, or in dry climates it can pull moisture the wrong direction.
  • Uneven tone, dark marks from old breakouts: PDRN Brightening Serum. PDRN is one of the more interesting ingredients to come out of Korean skincare in the last decade and we sourced the real thing, not a token dusting. The Dark Spot Serum is the other option in this lane, formulated for a more even looking tone.
  • Irritated, healing, barrier is trashed: Snail Mucin Face Serum. Snail secretion filtrate plus hydrolyzed collagen. Weird name, excellent for calming skin down.

Start every new serum at three nights a week. Work up to daily over two to three weeks. Your skin needs a ramp, not a shove.

Step 4: Moisturize (yes, even if you're oily)

Oily skin that isn't moisturized produces more oil, because your skin is trying to compensate for the water it lost. Skipping moisturizer to fight shine is a losing strategy.

Moisturizer is what seals in everything you just applied. Without it, your serum evaporates off your face and you paid for nothing.

Daytime, use the Peptide Moisturizer. Peptides, cranberry antioxidants, neem, moringa and aloe. Light enough to sit under sunscreen without pilling.

Nighttime, switch to the Sleep Plus Collagen Cream. Richer texture, built for overnight when your skin loses the most water and your barrier is doing its repair work.

If under eye puffiness is your thing, the Peptide Eye Gel-Cream is formulated for that thinner skin. It's a nice to have, not a day one essential.

Step 5: Sunscreen (the whole game)

We don't sell sunscreen yet, so take this as advice with nothing behind it: UV exposure is responsible for the large majority of visible skin aging. Not genetics. Not your diet. Sun.

Every serum you buy is you spending money to repair damage. Sunscreen is you spending money to not get the damage. It is, by a wide margin, the highest return product in skincare and it's the one beginners skip most.

SPF 30 minimum, SPF 50 if you're outside a lot, every single morning, cloudy days included. Any brand. Find a texture you don't hate so you'll actually use it.

What your first ninety days actually look like

Real talk on timelines, because unrealistic expectations are why people quit at week three:

  • Week 1: Skin feels more hydrated and less tight. That's it. That's real, but it's surface level.
  • Weeks 2 to 4: Texture starts smoothing. Your skin cycle runs roughly twenty eight days, so this is the first point where you're seeing genuinely new skin.
  • Weeks 6 to 8: Tone starts looking more even. The appearance of old dark marks softens. This is where most people first get a compliment they didn't fish for.
  • Week 12 and beyond: The compounding stuff. This is where consistency separates from everybody who bought products and used them for nine days.

Five mistakes to not make

  1. Adding everything at once. One new product per two weeks. If something reacts badly you need to know which thing did it.
  2. Over exfoliating. Twice a week is plenty. Daily scrubs will destroy your barrier faster than anything else on this list.
  3. Applying to bone dry skin. Damp skin, every time. It changes how much actually absorbs.
  4. Quitting at week two. Skin turnover takes a month. You cannot evaluate a product in nine days.
  5. Ignoring sleep, water and food. No serum out there beats seven hours of sleep. The routine amplifies the fundamentals, it doesn't replace them.

The actual starter stack

If you want the shortest path from zero to a routine that works:

  1. Charcoal Soap to cleanse
  2. Gentle Balancing Toner to prep
  3. Hyaluronic Acid Serum to treat
  4. Peptide Moisturizer to seal
  5. Any SPF 30 or higher in the morning

Five products. Run it for ninety days without changing anything. Then optimize.
